Yamana and the Cassava Collective
In Sierra Leone, Yamana and her peers are turning cassava into a source of independence and community growth.
When Yamana joined the Kamande Agricultural Project (KAP) in the Koinadugu District, she and other women farmers faced limited access to markets and machinery. With support from RSWR, the group purchased a cassava-processing machine. They now manage every stage of production — growing, processing, packaging, and selling. Nothing goes to waste: peelings become chicken feed, and cassava juice becomes laundry starch. Yamana says the group’s success lies in their unity and shared vision. “We are not just farming; we are building something together.” Their work has strengthened both family incomes and community ties.
