INDIA - $4,250
Micro-enterprise for Mothers of Street Children
Project Director - Sister Helan Fastina
20 mothers of street children in the city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, are participating in this one-year project.
Wings Trust has been running a small home for 30 homeless children in Madurai. The families of these children are the poorest among the poor. Some of the families of these children are without a male adult. The home is run with local donations and, due to lack of funds, the children have been returned to their mothers. This proposal is for those families who have had children in the home. They will engage in one of four income-generating projects; palm leaf basket-making, candle-making, vegetable vending, and garment ironing.
