Economic Promotion Providing Food Security

Thirty Dalit women from three self-help groups are participating in this one-year project. They all have small pieces of land. The land is un-utilized and overgrown. The women will clear and cultivate the land to grow vegetables. A female calf will also be provided to each of the women. The women will be trained on water harvesting, land reclamation, intercrop cultivation and animal-rearing. They will also learn to use compost and plant matter waste to produce compost.

From Dr. R. Kannan’s site visit report, “WORD has good rapport with the women beneficiaries. It has 2 full-time staff and is working in 20 villages. There is a good potential for calf-rearing and watermelon cultivation.”
