GPT, operating in Karur District, Tamil Nadu, has been engaged in training on sustainable farming, child development interventions, capacity building, environmental awareness, herbal plants, vermi-compost. and nursery gardening. Twenty women, who are members of a farmers self-help group, will be trained for two days on inter-crops, organic farming, land preparation, and soil and water management. They will also receive two days of training on vermi-compost and herbal pesticide production, including a one day visit to New Earth Team’s (recent RSWR partner) field area to see the floriculture and horticulture projects. Each woman will receive $145 for seed purchase and compost supplies. They will farm on one acre of their own land, hiring local farmers to assist. Anticipated economics are:

From Dr. R. Kannan’s site visit report, “GPT is a small organization working among rural agricultural women. They conduct regular monthly meetings for savings, credit and training, and are interested in doing the proposed projects.”
