Organic Floriculture
Project Coordinator - Mrs. L. Antoniammal
This is a new project for a past RSWR partner. The twenty beneficiaries of this project are growing roses, as did the former project. These new members have visited the lands of the former beneficiaries and have discussed their experience. The women of this project will be four women from each of five self-help groups. The women will receive four days of training in rose cultivation and organic inputs. Each woman will receive a loan of $190 (repaid in six installments at 15% interest) to purchase seedlings and inputs for making vermi-compost and panchakavya. After five months, the roses will begin to produce, with production increasing over the next 5-6 years. 100 roses sell for $.22 ($.44 during festival seasons). Anticipated annual economics are:

From Dr. R. Kannan’s site visit report: “MT is headed by Mrs. Antoniammal. It has three trained staff. MT has successfully completed its rose cultivation project. The proposed project is for rose cultivation as well. The target women are interested and want to try rose cultivation after witnessing the previous project. The target village is suitable for rose cultivation with rich soil and water resources.”
