Various Income-Generating Projects
Project Coordinator - Mrs. R. Amutha
Nineteen women from Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu are participating in this one-year project.
This project is for women who formerly worked either in local tanneries or made their living by hand weaving. The tanneries are closed and the weavers are unable to afford adequate supplies to continue their trade. Four income-generating projects are identified for this project; yarn winding with small power tools, weaving saries and other cloth items, tiffin stalls, and wet grinding of flours. The women will receive fifteen days of training in skill development, marketing, accounting and an exposure visit. Loans will be $210 per woman and will be recovered in 12 installments at 12% interest per year. Anticipated economics are:

From Dr. R. Kannan’s report, “Seminary of Women Empowerment Trust is a small organization with two staff. SWET has an office in the target area. Target people are poor weaving women who are organized as self-help groups and conducting monthly meetings. All the income-generating projects are feasible. The women have the knowledge about the proposed project.”
